Cairo, Pyramids of Ghiza and Lunch on the Nile River

The journey to Cairo lasts approximately 3 hours, a drive through reclaimed, cultivated desert, and modern industrial towns. Arriving in Cairo, Africa's largest city, your first stop will be the Citadel of Saladin and the Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali. Admire the exquisite interiors of the Mosque and view the fascinating skyline of Old Cairo from the top of the hill. Drive downtown to the banks of the River Nile where a luxurious cruise boat awaits to take us on the same timeless waterway traversed by Pharaohs, Queens and Nobles thousands of years ago. We'll enjoy a sumptuous buffet lunch in elaborate surroundings as we glide past Cairo's waterfront landmark. After the cruise, we'll drive to the Giza Plateau where the only remaining Wonder of the Ancient World, The Great Pyramids of Giza are found. A panoramic view of the three pyramids from the Western Plateau affords great opportunities for photographs, before our coach parks near the Pyramid of Chephren where time will be allocated to explore the site. We'll continue down the valley to visit the guardian of this complex, the mysterious Sphinx. Our next stop will be at a Papyrus Institute where the art of paper making from reeds will be demonstrated before our return to Alexandria.

Leaving the ship by motorboat, we will arrive at the port of Anthinios where we will find guides and buses to take us to Oia Village. Following the coast road to the northern end of the island, we will drive along the "Caldera", which is the typical rocky cliff that completely surrounds Santorini. At Oia, we will go for an inviting stroll along its lanes, overlooked by the typical ochre houses with their characteristic blue dome-shaped roofs. We will enjoy a beautiful view of the islands of Folegandros and Sikinos and of the famous volcano, now extinct. Further on, we will enjoy another breath taking view of the beaches of Ammoundi and Armenians, with the pretty church of St Nikolaus. Then we continue our tour to Thera, the main centre of the island. Here, we will have some free time for a walk or for shopping, before going back to the harbour by cable car.

Olympia and the Flavours of Ancient Greece

Our excursion will begin with a visit to ancient Olympia, located at the foot of the verdant Kronion Hill. It is here that, according to legend, the gods of Olympus inaugurated the first Olympic games, transforming the area into Greece's primary sporting and religious centre. During our journey through the excavations we will be able to admire the ruins of the splendid sanctuary dedicated to Zeus, home of his lost golden ivoy statue, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the Temple of Hera (600 B.C.), one of the most ancient examples of temple architecture in Greece, as well as the famous stadium that held up to 40,000 spectators. We will then return to Katakolon where our excursion will finish with a taste of some of the delicious local cuisine accompanied by the merry sounds of the sirtaki, a traditional folk dance.

Departing from the port of Naples for a tour of the historical city of Pompeii. A few years after having been damaged by a violent earthquake, this ancient city of Oscan origin was completely buried under a layer of lava and ashes during the huge eruption of the volcano Vesuvius in the year 79 AD. The excavations, which were started in the 18th century and continued throughout the last century, have brought to light many relics of immeasurable value. Your tour starts from the Porta Marina which leads to the Forum, the centre of political and economic life of the city. The Forum is dominated by the Temple of Jupiter and the Basilica, the most important public building in Pompeii. The tour continues along the Via dell'Abbondanza (street of abundance), which is lined with homes and shops. We will then be able to admire the house of "Caccia", the house of "Fauno" (elf), a noble private dwelling, and the Baths. The tour also includes a brief visit to one of the most famous factories for the processing of coral and the manufacturing of cameos.

We will leave the port and take the motorway to Taormina, where we will arrive after a journey of about an hour. The city, which is built on a plateau of Monte Tauro, against a backdrop of enchanting natural beauty, preserves interesting relics from the Greek, Roman and medieval periods. We will stroll through the centre to enter the old town through the historic Porta Messina. Our guide will let us admire the dramatic external façade of Palazzo Corvaja, the town's most important building, dating back to the fifteenth century, although the original structure is a tower dating from the Arab period. We will enter further into the heart of the town to visit the spectacular Greek Theatre, dating back to the Hellenistic period, that is the symbol of the town and one of the most famous Sicilian monuments. We will have a little free time to wander through the fascinating narrow streets of the old town or to do some shopping.
