Sarah Malatesta and Joe Crosby's Honeymoon Registry

Sarah Malatesta and Joe Crosby's Honeymoon Registry

Mexico, Tulum

We don't need a lot of things around the house, and if you know Sarah and Joe (and you do), you'll know that we have pretty specific taste. Also, Joe hates china. So, a traditional registry just won't do for us. It would mean a lot more if you helped pay for our tropical, do-nothing getaway to Tulum, Mexico. The last year and a half has been a doozy for us, with not a whole lot of breathing room until the last couple of months. Believe it or not, we've never actually been on a real vacation together outside of the occasional weekend trip to go to a wedding or visit family. We need a vacation almost as much as we need to get married, and it's probably the last (only) real vacation we'll muster for quite some time. That's why this would mean a lot to us.

Entertainment/Activities

Deep Sea Fishing with Puerto Aventuras

Deep Sea Fishing with Puerto Aventuras

The Malatesta clan (and basically every other blood relative in Ohio) doesn't take their fishing lightly, having cut their teeth for years in the Florida Keys. Sarah claims to have caught "literally 5 billion barracuda and Spanish mackerel." Her penchant for exaggerating aside, this statement is telling: She doesn't want to catch another dang barracuda. Help her get the big catch, and pray for Joe as Sarah certainly won't be the least bit focused or taking this fishing trip way too seriously.

Flats Fishing in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve

Flats Fishing in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve

While Sarah loves the open water (and who doesn't, really?), Joeski Woeski is pretty excited about fishing the Sian Ka'an Biospehere, which is supposed to have some of the best flats fishing in the world. Never mind the biosphere is worth a visit for a million other reasons, too. We want to rent a small boat, and take our own self-guided tour. If you're thinking we'll get lost, you're probably right.

Hiking the Ruins Around the Peninsula

Hiking the Ruins Around the Peninsula

There are oceanside ruins right in Tulum, but in the surrounding area, options are everywhere. Coba, Calakmul Uxma, Chichen Itza and more. Some are near, some will take us a couple of hours to get to. Help us get to them!

Sold Out

Perfumes/Oils at Coqui Coqui Spa

Perfumes/Oils at Coqui Coqui Spa

Apparently, this place has some tough-to-find perfumes and oils using only products from the Yucatan Peninsula. And I don't have to tell you which one of us loves perfumes. Needless to say, Joe's pretty excited about getting his hands on a couple of items from Coqui Coqui.

Sold Out

Snorkeling in the Cenotes

Snorkeling in the Cenotes

Cenotes are like water-filled cave systems that rise to the surface, creating fresh-water pools in the middle of the jungle. Scuba and cave divers can navigate the underwater/ground caverns. We'll more than likely just be snorkeling, unless we get a wild hair. Either way, cenotes are worth checking out. If you've seen Planet Earth (or been to the Yucatan), you know what we mean.

Spa at Be Tulum Hotel

Spa at Be Tulum Hotel

As you know, Nini/Mal/Sarah has bad hips. But even if she didn't, she'd still appreciate a nice massage. The hip thing is just a convenient excuse, as is our plane trip prior to this spa treatment on Day 1 in Tulum. We'd love to decompress on our first full day of wedded bliss with a spa package, courtesy of you kind folks.

Accommodations

Two nights at Be Tulum

Two nights at Be Tulum

Tulum is a pretty crunchy place, where accommodations are unrefined, a little sweaty, but ultimately inviting--like Joe. But for our first two nights, we're going for the pampered treatment at Be Tulum. The cabana is on the beach, with a pool on the roof. Pretty awesome.

Sold Out

Dining

8 meals (yes, 8!) of Local Treats

8 meals (yes, 8!) of Local Treats

When we're not eating Italian or Thai, most of our grub is going to be local fare, including a few obscure gems Sarah discovered. This food should be cheap and delicious. And anyone who knows Joe (which is all of you, I think) knows Joe likes to eat.

Sold Out

Beachside Margs/Snacks

Beachside Margs/Snacks

Since there's not a whole lot to do but eat, drink and lay by the beach, we'll probably be eating and drinking while laying by the beach. And by eating, we mean things made from flour and corn and probably avocado. And by drinking, we mean margaritas.

Sold Out

Breakfast--4 Mornings

Breakfast--Two Mornings

The plan is to wake up, walk right to the ocean, jump in, linger for a few minutes, then walk back to our porch and air dry while we eat. You can't help us air dry, but you can help us eat.

Sold Out

Buckets of Beer

Bucket of Beer

Self-explanatory. But don't be fooled by the photo: Joe will have his own hammock.

Sold Out

Champagne with Dinner

Champagne with Dinner

Every honeymoon needs at least one champagne night.

Sold Out

Dinner at Cetli

Dinner at Cetli

Supposedly decent food here--sort of a French twist to Mexican dishes. We're gonna give it a shot.

Sold Out

Dinner at La Zebra

Dinner at La Zebra

We're actually staying at La Zebra, but they also have a good restaurant. And at least one night (though probably most), we're not going to want to do more than walk a handful of feet for dinner.

Sold Out

Dinner at Mezzanine Thai Restaurant

Dinner at Mezzanine Thai Restaurant

Like Italian food, Thai is best enjoyed in Mexico. Obviously. But this Thai food is particularly good, and we can't possibly do 12 days of just fish and Mexican fare. (Also, we love Thai. If you come visit us, we'll probably take you to Pon Proem)

Sold Out

Dinner When We Return

Dinner When We Return

We're getting back home right around dinner time, and we certainly aren't going to cook. But a trip to our local joint Bennet's would be a nice gift for our return.

Sold Out

Posada Margherita

Posada Margherita

Italian in Mexico? Sure. And we're not talking watered down marinara with mushy noodles. The real deal. Be a gem, and help us have an Italian feast where all Italian feasts should be had: A Mexican beach.

Sold Out

Shopping

Textiles, Trinket and Touristy Stuff

Textiles, Trinket and Touristy Stuff

As these things go, we'll pass by more vendors, shopping stalls and tourist nooks than we'll be able to count. A couple of them will surely lure us.

Sold Out

Transportation

Transportation in Tulum

Transportation in Tulum

We have to cab it from Cancun to Tulum, and back again when flying in/out. It's well over an hour in a cab, and probably the least fun part of the trip. We'll also need to take small cab rides here and there, into town, etc.

Help Board The Fossman!

Help Board The Fossman!

Foster, all 10.5 years of him, is still alive and kicking. I hate to board him, but we have to. The cool part is, we've found a place near the mountains that sits on five acres. The dogs get daily hikes and swims, and get to roam free on what's basically a farm, coming and going at their leisure from the huge, dog-modified barn house where they stay.
